I had been using this app on windows machine a couple of years ago, though I couldn’t verify active development, because last update dates back to 2017. You can also customize the visual, its font size, opacity, and the color. It also displays mouse clicks, by default.Ĭarnac allows you to customize, like, whether the app will show all keystrokes or just those that include modifier keys.

The best part is it does not require any installation and is a portable app. Github Repo: Keycastr Carnac (for windows)Ĭarnac, open source project, is goto tool for capturing keystrokes onto the screen for windows. You can choose from different settings as per your preference (screenshot below) To use the app, you will need to provide accessibility permission(because Mac! 🤷🏻‍♂️). It has two different styles for showing keystrokes and you can opt to only show keystrokes that are used with the Ctrl, Command, Option, and Shift keys.

The best alternative is Carnac, which is both free and Open Source. There are more than 10 alternatives to Ke圜astr for Windows, Mac and Linux. Topics I’d like to cover, in no particular order. Ke圜astr is described as lets you easily display your keystrokes while recording screencasts and is a Screen Casting tool in the video & movies category.

  • Vim screencast #5: Splits (basic operations).
  • They shouldn’t be more than a few minutes long each. To prevent this from becoming too onerous, or letting my perfectionism get the better of me, I am giving myself permission for these to be rough, unscripted, unrehearsed and, in general, to suck. My intention here is not to create yet another "here is why you should use Vim"/"see the power of modal editing" screencast, but rather a collection of short tips and demos for existing Vim users basically the kind of content that I myself might want to see. A bunch of quick-and-dirty screencasts about Vim.
